Privacy Policy

Overview

Foldery is a browser extension that helps you organize your conversations on AI chat platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini) into folders, with full-text search and other productivity features. Foldery is built local-first: your data lives on your device and is not sent to any Foldery server.

Data Foldery does not collect

• The content of your conversations on ChatGPT, Claude, or any other platform is never transmitted to Foldery's servers.
• No analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, or usage metrics of any kind.
• No personal identifiers (name, email, IP address) are collected by the extension itself.
• No advertising data, behavioral profiling, or third-party tracking.

Data stored locally on your device

Foldery stores the following information in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB), accessible only to the extension on your device:

• Folders you create, including their names, colors, hierarchy, and order.
• Chat metadata and content from the AI platforms you use, indexed locally for search and organization. This data is read from the platforms you are already logged into; Foldery does not log you in or extract anything beyond what your browser session can already access.
• Extension settings (sidebar state, preferences).

This data never leaves your device. Uninstalling Foldery removes all of it. You can also delete it at any time from Foldery's Settings menu (Reset local data) or export a backup (Export backup) for your own records.

Permissions and why Foldery needs them

• Storage: required to save your folders and chat metadata locally on your device.
• Tabs: required to detect when you are on a supported AI platform and to inject the Foldery sidebar there.
• Host permissions for chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai, and gemini.google.com: required to display the Foldery sidebar on those sites and to read your own chat history through their existing authenticated session in your browser. Foldery does not have access to any other websites.

Foldery does not request <all_urls>, cookies, webRequest, or any other broad or sensitive permissions.

Communication with third parties

When you use Foldery to import your chat history from ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, your browser communicates directly with those platforms using the session you are already logged into. This communication is between you and the platform; Foldery is not an intermediary server. The data returned is stored only on your device.

If, in the future, Foldery offers a paid license, payment processing will be handled by Lemon Squeezy (the merchant of record), and license key validation will be performed against a server operated by Foldery. Only your license key and email address (provided at purchase) are involved in this process. No chat content or folder data is ever transmitted as part of license validation.

Your rights

Because all your data is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to Foldery, you have full control over it:

• Access: use Export backup in the Settings menu to download a complete copy of your data as JSON.
• Deletion: use Reset local data in the Settings menu, or simply uninstall the extension.
• Portability: the exported JSON is a standard, open format you can read or import into another tool.

If you are located in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or California, applicable laws (including the GDPR and the CCPA) give you additional rights regarding personal data. Since Foldery does not collect personal data on its own servers, most of these rights are exercised directly through the controls described above.

Children's privacy

Foldery is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy is updated, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the change. Material changes will also be communicated through the Foldery extension or its listing on the Chrome Web Store.
